Clinton River October 1st to October 17th 2014

The local trout fishing has wound down and we are in our fall days...time to think steelhead. The bite has been turning on a bit if you can predict the small window of opportunity and try covering some water. I hooked my first fish on the 1st of October and have now hooked up slightly over 12 fish with two nice carp to count for the efforts. Had a nice sized hen salmon breach and roll 5 times while hooked on a fly. I recently had a nice sized skip do an acrobatic show only to finally spit the hook on a wiggle hex. Sight fished a pod of what I thought were salmon to find out most were minnows (carp). I hooked and landed two carp, lost 3 to 4 steel, long distanced released 3 salmon and three other fish were unidentified. The weather is stable the water dropping again but holding a stain and the crowds are down. Best of action this fall season!
