Clinton River Recent Conditions

The Mighty Clinton is up to 519 cfs which is a small spike from the last two days. The fish are there its just that they are holding in slots and runs more than holes. The water temp was 52.5 F on Sunday and with this cold front it should remain stable or even drop a degree or two. This is a good thing for the system and may prolong fish activity IMHO. The water is still stained and colored up a bit and the sucker fishermen are having a blast out there as well. Look for more carp and a few quill backs to show up as well in the next week or two. Have not seen a lot of stonefly activity but the shelf ice and anchor ice through the month of January and February has most likely delayed their hatch. The steelhead have been taking various stonefly patterns as well as eggs for the last week or so. Many of us on the river have had a pretty good season with hook-ups and a good number landed as well. As we near the official trout opener for our designated trout streams remember that some steelhead will still be found in water ways where steelhead migrate through so you may just want to bring along a 7 or 8 weight as well to seek these fish out. Best of action out there and please feel free to leave a report!
