Meet the Owner

Keith (Kip) Lowrie is a certified inland captain with white water training from Colorado. Kip received a BGS degree from Oakland University in 2007 as well as a Biology minor and a concentration in Film Aesthetics and History. This is Kip's 20th year as owner/operator of Woodland Rivers. Kip is the head Guide for local walk/wade trips, casting clinic Instructor and will do a few destination trips as well.

Keith (Kip) Lowrie started fishing at the young age of two. He has been an Oakland County resident for over 30 years. His first salmon was caught off the state dock in Port Austin, MI at age 13 and weighed 18 lbs. The memory that Kip mostly cherishes is fishing for blue gill, bass, and catfish in his grandparents ponds in Ortonville, MI. "My grandparents had several ponds that were connected and each one had lunker bass in them." Kip received his first fly-tying kit at age twelve and began tying and fly fishing by age 13. Kip's most prized catch was a 400 pd plus hammerhead shark which he caught off the coast of Miami, FL at age 15. "I recall fighting the fish from the back of the boat and standing the whole time. I was shocked to hear that almost two hours had passed while fighting this trophy shark, I guess I was wrapped up in the fight and time flew!" Kip now spends as much time as he can fishing Michigan waters for trout, salmon, and steelhead and bass. Kip also has a fisheries background from LSSU and holds a minor in Biology from Oakland University. He has worked for 5 fly shops including the former Paint Creek Outfitters of downtown Rochester from 15-20 years of age. Woodland Rivers was created to share in the passion of fly fishing and to provide customers with a top notch guided fly fishing experience.

Sincerely,

Kip R. Lowrie
