Patrick Moore

Pat Moore is one of Woodland Rivers head guides for trout, salmon and steelhead destination fly-fishing trips.

Pat Moore started fly fishing at eight years old when his father bought him an Eagle Claw glass fly rod for Christmas. Spending years with his father and brothers fishing private ranch water on the South Platte River in Colorado on summer vacations, he developed a deep passion for the sport. After leaving high school, Pat attended Colorado State University and studied fisheries biology under renowned professors Dr. Robert Behnki and Dr. Kurt Fausch During his time at CSU and for some time after, Pat had hands on experience understanding and improving trout habitat with the Colorado Division of Wildlife and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife service. Working with Key Fish Biologist such as Jeff Thomas and Ken Bovie This education and experience has served Pat’s clients well as he is able to provide a deep understanding of the environment, trout behavior and habitat protection. Pat started his professional fly fishing career as a guide for Gore Creek Fly Fisherman in Vail, Colorado in 1989. After a few years of learning the ropes, he took the leap to fly shop ownership with an Orvis dealership in Avon, Colorado. After deciding that he preferred the water to running a shop, Pat went back to guiding for Roy Palm at the Fryingpan Anglers in Basalt, CO. While guiding in Colorado, Pat received a call from friend Kelly Galloup who wanted to have him come and apply his experience in Northern Michigan. Pat had always wanted to get back closer to home and the large trout and salmon that live in the surrounding Northern Michigan rivers. Pat served as the head guide for Kelly Galloup at the Troutsman in Traverse City, Michigan for six years. At present, Pat is conveniently located in Grayling, MI and guides on the Upper Manistee and Ausable Rivers for trout, the Betsie for salmon and steelhead and a few other Michigan River systems. If you are looking for a professional experience start to finish with a wealth of knowledge to share, then Pat Moore is the Guide for you!
